Experts say that if 60% to 80% of the people in a community cover their faces (in addition to the other protective measures) that will slow or possibly even stop the spread of COVID-19.
Some people in your community who feel completely well are probably infected with COVID-19 and shedding virus as they simply breathe and talk. Face masks prevent the virus-laden respiratory particles exhaled by one person from being breathed in by another.
So, the best available solution is for everyone to wear a high quality homemade cloth mask face mask -- but most people don’t have one (yet).
The only realistic way to get enough masks made and distributed to everyone who needs them -- quickly – is by organizing and coordinating volunteer teams at the local community level to make it happen.
There are many resources on this website that further document the need to do this, the effectiveness of this approach, and the research and science that show this is a good thing to do.
