Guide to BWC's Main Website
BWC has a comprehensive website with much material for workers, employers, healthcare providers, and others.
It can be a bit overwhelming to navigate because it has so much material for so many different
users with different needs. This guide tells you how to find the parts
most important to you, an injured worker.
We suggest that you print this web page and then
go to the BWC website . Using the printout as a
guide, browse around the BWC site to see the different things available to you there.
General Site Features
- The home page has quick links to a number of useful things,
and will let you log in to see your claim details on-line once you have set
up a user account. You should set up
your account right away!
- Each web page has a banner across the top with the same
high-level menu items that take you to the major sections of the site.
The two sections of most interest to you will probably be "Injured Workers"
and "BWC Library".
- Navigation of the site can be a bit tricky, as links often
take you to a different section of the site without necessarily making it
clear which section you land in. Learn to look at the picture at the
top of the page - that will tell you whether you are in the Injured Worker
part (a blue-gray image) or the BWC Library part (a brown image), for
example. Some pages have a label right under the top graphic that
says, for example, "OhioBWC - Employer:", but not all pages show that.
- On the left of each screen (except the top-level home page) is
a list of links to key parts of the section you are in. Note that each
has a Section Map link at the bottom, which will show you a page with all
menu items in that section. This can be very helpful.
- Note the links at the very bottom of each page. These
include a Contact Us link that quickly tells you how to get in touch with
BWC for any purpose you may have, and a Site Map for the entire website.
Injured Worker Section
- The Injured Worker section home page lists many links
divided into functional areas. A few links take you to general
information, but most let you see details about your own claim, such as
payment history, payments scheduled, documents filed, and claim status.
There are also some actions you can take on your claim.
- In order to see the details on your claim, you must have set up a user
account and must have logged in using that account. See
Set Up Your User Account for the BWC Website for detailed instructions on setting up your account.
- The Section Map link on the left will show you all menu items
- that's very helpful. For many, you should hover your mouse pointer
over the menu item to see the multiple options available underneath.
BWC Library Section
- The BWC Library section has materials of interest to everyone in
the workers' compensation system, so much of it will not be relevant for you.
The home page is divided into areas and shows menus within each. Many
of these have subsections with material for injured workers, so you may need to
poke around to find the sections of most interest.
- Also note that if you hover your mouse over the links in the left
margin, submenus will appear, and several of these include Injured Worker
subsections. For example, the Qs & As link has an Injured Worker
subsection.
- Key things you can find here are:
- Qs and As for injured workers covering a variety of practical
and helpful topics
- Glossaries of terms relevant to injured workers
- Forms relevant to injured workers
- Under E-Publications you will find BWC Publications, and in
there a link to Injured Worker Publications. These cover many topics
of interest and relevance to you.
- Under About BWC you will find links to BWC policies and
procedures, which describe how BWC processes claims, and to also to Rules
and Statutes. These are VERY technically detailed and complex, but
available if you need them.
